About Dr. Jason Maher
Professional Background
Dr. Maher completed his medical degree at the University of Newcastle in 2016, followed by his residency in the Hunter region. He then undertook specialist GP training with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, gaining experience in various locations throughout the Hunter and Lake Macquarie regions. After obtaining his specialist qualifications, Jason and his young family relocated to his hometown of Trundle in Central West NSW, where he served as the sole GP and Visiting Medical Officer.
In early 2024, Jason and his family moved back to the Hunter, where he now operates his General Practice within Central Health Alliance. Before his medical career, Jason worked as a Registered Nurse/Nurse Practitioner for more than two decades, diligently enhancing his healthcare knowledge and skills. This included completing numerous courses, notably earning a Master's Degree. Despite his extensive nursing career, Jason decided to study medicine to pursue greater knowledge and skills in healthcare provision.
Personal History
Jason spent his childhood in Central Western NSW before relocating to the Hunter in 2005. He is married to Vicki, a Clinical Psychologist. He has four children. While Jason has previously been an avid player of rugby league and cricket, his current interests include fishing, diving, and engaging in quality time and activities with his family and friends.
